Rep (Repp)

Plain weave with pronounced ribbing produced by heavier weft or warp threads.
Description
Rep (or repp; French reps) is a derivative of plain weave in which one of the thread systems (warp or weft) is made distinctly heavier than the other. The finer threads cover the heavier ones evenly, producing a pronounced cross- or lengthwise rib: weft rep (cross ribs) or warp rep (lengthwise ribs).
Fibres: wool for suiting and neckties (classic English rep silk tie), cotton for curtains and upholstery, silk for medal ribbons and ties, polyester for décor and ribbons. Weights 150-400 g/m² depending on use.
Uses: neckties (classic regimental ties), curtains, upholstery, medal ribbons, uniform fabrics and bedding. The pronounced rib makes rep a classic vehicle for stripe patterns (regimental stripes).
