Voile

Light, semi-transparent plain-weave fabric of high-twist yarns — airy and fine for blouses and curtains.
Description
Voile is a very light, semi-transparent plain-weave fabric whose character comes from high-twist yarns. The strong twist of the singles (typically 1000-1500 turns per metre) makes the yarns thin, hard and dry; the open thread count lets light through and produces the veil-like effect from which the name derives (French voile = veil).
Fibres: classically fine cotton (Ne 60-120), today also viscose, polyester, wool or silk. Weights are very low (60-100 g/m²). Despite the fineness the fabric feels stable and creases noticeably less than comparable batiste thanks to the twist.
Uses: summer blouses, children's dresses, nightgowns, sari cloth, mourning veils, historic bridal veils — and to a large extent curtains and drapes. Voile curtains diffuse daylight and are the standard for semi-transparent window solutions.
