Rib knit alternating one face loop and one reverse loop — the finest, most elastic rib type.
Description
1x1 rib is the classic fine rib structure: on a double-cylinder circular machine one face loop alternates with one reverse loop. After knitting the fabric contracts strongly across, so narrow ribs of equal height form. Transverse stretch is 80-150%, the highest among standard ribs.
Material is usually cotton Ne 30-40 with 3-8% elastane; cuffs often use plied yarn for higher recovery. Weights 180-240 g/m². 1x1 rib is the dominant construction for neck, cuff and hem trims on virtually all sweat and shirt goods; as rib jersey it is used for basic tees, bodies, fine-rib underwear and childrenswear.
Care: 30-40 °C, no fabric softener, low tumble. The fine rib is very shape-retentive and keeps neck and cuff trims tight through many washes. When applied as trim, the rib is sewn under 40-50% stretch so it lies close to the opening.
