Fine sport mesh with characteristic bird-eye honeycomb structure for high breathability.
Description
Bird eyelet mesh is a knit pattern with small, regularly arranged openings that visually resemble bird eyes. The structure is formed on circular knitting machines with targeted tuck stitches and missed needles, so every 4-6 loops a small honeycomb opening appears. Openings are very fine at 0.5-1.5 mm diameter but evenly distributed.
Material is usually polyester filament (100-150 dtex) or polyester-cotton blend. Weights are 130-180 g/m². The permeable honeycomb structure effectively wicks sweat vapour outwards without letting wind pass directly — compared with open coarse mesh the bird-eye pattern is much more thermally stable.
Classic use: sports jerseys (football, handball, volleyball), polo shirt back panels, sport functional shirts, panels in high-vis workwear. Care: 30-40 °C, no fabric softener, low tumble. Benefit: outstanding moisture management, low weight, still more opaque than coarse mesh. Environmental: recycled polyester (rPET) is increasingly the standard.
