Bonded fleece

Two fleece layers laminated with a membrane or softshell face for wind- and weather-resistant jackets.
Description
Bonded fleece is a composite of two or three textile layers laminated by dot or flat gluing with PU adhesive or hotmelt web. Typical is a combination of a robust outer face (softshell fabric or woven), a wind- and vapour-permeable membrane (PU, PTFE or TPU) and a brushed fleece inner lining (200-300 g/m²).
Total weight is 350-550 g/m²; the construction combines wind protection, moderate water repellency (DWR-treated outer) and the insulation of a standard fleece in a single fabric. Circular-knit fleece serves as inner layer with 1-2 mm pile height; bonding runs through a heated calender at 130-150 °C.
Care: hand wash or 30 °C gentle cycle, no fabric softener; DWR must be re-applied periodically. Environmental issue: bonded composites are hard to recycle because layers would need to be separated; microplastics come mainly from the open fleece inside. Newer constructions use mono-material thermoplastic layers for better separability.
