Most common mesh variant from polyester filament yarn — light, quick-drying, breathable.
Description
Polyester mesh is the commercially dominant mesh variant. Polyester filament yarns (multifilament, 100-300 dtex) are processed on circular or warp knitting machines. The synthetic base allows very fine yarns with high tenacity, defined opening sizes and coloured finishing through disperse dyeing.
Weights range from 80 g/m² (ultra-light net) to 200 g/m² (basketball coarse mesh). Polyester is inherently hydrophobic but still transports sweat effectively by capillary action in the interstices between filaments. Antibacterial finishes (silver ions) or anti-odour additives are common add-ons for sports articles.
Classic uses: sports jerseys of all ball sports, running shirts, sport backpack backs, linings of cycling and ski wear, shoe uppers, high-vis inserts. Care: 30-40 °C, no fabric softener (clogs openings), low tumble, no ironing. Microplastic shedding is noticeable in sport mesh; recycled polyester (rPET) and washing machine fibre filters reduce the load.
