Description

Sherpa fleece is a high-pile polyester circular knit whose dense, crimped pile visually and tactilely resembles lambskin — hence the name (sherpa alluding to the warmth needed by high-altitude peoples). The pile is produced on high-pile circular knitting machines with long needles (gauge 12-16) and a special feeding technique in which pile threads are tied in only every third or fourth loop.

Pile heights of 6-15 mm are typical, weights 300-500 g/m². The crimping polyester filament is permanently curled by targeted heat setting, giving the characteristic woolly look. Sherpa has extremely high air volume and insulates outstandingly; heat retention is around double that of standard fleece at similar weight.

Classic uses: linings for winter jackets, coats and parkas, cardigans, cushion covers, home and car blankets, slippers. Care: 30 °C gentle wash, no fabric softener, low tumble — curls must be able to relax again. Microplastic shedding is inherent to the construction; recycled polyester (rPET) significantly reduces the environmental burden.
