Voluminous curly high-pile fleece with a teddy-bear look, warm and soft.
Description
Teddy fleece is a high-pile polyester fleece whose filaments are controllably crimped so the pile takes on a curly, wool-like structure. It is knitted on circular machines (16-20 gauge) as interlock or high-pile construction with a long base pile of 5-10 mm, then lightly brushed but not sheared to keep the characteristic curl.
Fabric weights are 300-450 g/m² and the look mimics sherpa or teddy-bear plush. Because a lot of air is trapped in the dense curl pile, teddy fleece insulates outstandingly and feels cosy; on the other hand it is more wind-sensitive than smooth sheared fleece. Common uses are transitional and winter jackets, parka linings, cardigans, bathrobes and kidswear.
Care: 30 °C gentle wash, no fabric softener, low tumble dry so the curls do not mat. Microplastic shedding is inherent to the construction; fibre bags and recycled polyester (rPET) reduce the burden. Colour depth stays permanently stable thanks to solution-friendly polyester.
