Plied-yarn terry

Plied-yarn terry is the highest terry class: the pile warp consists of plied cotton yarn (e.g. two-ply Ne 20/2 = two Ne 20 yarns twisted together). The plied pile yarn forms firmer, more shape-stable loops that keep their upright structure even after many washes. Ground warp and weft may be of different fineness.

Fabric weights range from 450 g/m² for household to 700-900 g/m² for hotel and luxury lines. Loops are denser, more even and untwist less; the fabric appears more compact and durable than single-yarn terry. Colour depth and pattern sharpness (in jacquard) are excellent because the plied yarn produces cleaner edges.

Uses: premium towels, hotel terry, deluxe bathrobes, sauna towels. Care: high lint on first wash, minimal thereafter; 60 °C, occasionally 95 °C boil wash, no fabric softener. The higher yarn mass makes plied terry more expensive and heavier but service life is often more than double that of single-yarn.
