Description

Plied velour is the premium velour variant with pile yarn made of two- or three-ply cotton (Ne 20/2 to 30/2). The plied structure gives each pile thread a rounder cross-section and higher tenacity, so pile threads stay upright even under stress and washing and felt less than in single-yarn velour.

Manufacturing is usually on plush circular knitting machines with subsequent cutting, shearing and polishing. Pile heights 2-4 mm, weights 280-400 g/m². The denser fibre arrangement yields deeper colour because more area takes dye and a distinctly fuller, richer hand. Reactive-dyed pieces show particularly brilliant colour depth.

Uses: premium bathrobes, high-end towels, seat covers, convertible top linings, church and concert seating (thanks to good acoustic absorption). Care: 30-40 °C, no fabric softener, low tumble; plied velour is significantly more durable than single-yarn velour and keeps pile and colour through many washes. Price level correspondingly higher.
